I think i have seen everything now.The verizon guys barried my new fiber optic today. In order to locate the line they run a 3 pair phone wire with it.The phone line does not get hooked to anything. It must be cheaper than magnetic tape

They ran the phone wire so an underground locater could find the non metallic fiber later if they need to.

In my area the gas company buries a 10 or 8 solid on top of plastic gas lines as a way to locate the line later.

Re: verizon fios

the gas company here has the trace wire built into the plastic line. and they bring it up at specified points so thay can hook a tracer up to it later.

Re: verizon fios

I understand the #10 for gas also seen that for major water lines .But why would verizon simply not use magnetic tape.We are only talking 6 to 12 inches deep.Today was there 3rd time to run this line. They also earned a bill from the cable company for a new line.Perhaps they just have several miles of unneeded phone line.New system provides internet, phone, and soon tv.
