Vertical drops

I often see in grocery stores and similiar locations that when receptacle outlets are needed on the racking/shleving for the merchandise, EMT is dropped from the srtuctural ceiling down to the rack for a length slightly over 10 feet. I realize that EMT is limitted to 10' in length for this, and that IMC/RMC is allowed to go 20 feet, but the 20' exception is only fixed in place equipment.

Is there a code compliant method for doing this?

Re: Vertical drops

Use some cord. :D

We will use a power pole for this in 'nice' areas, you can get long lengths 18' maybe more.

Or RMC, IMC it is not to hard to work with.

344.30(B)(3) Exposed vertical risers from industrial machinery or fixed equipment shall be permitted to be supported at intervals not exceeding 6 m (20 ft), if the conduit is made up with threaded couplings, the conduit is firmly supported at the top and bottom of the riser, and no other means of intermediate support is readily available.
A horn strobe or an outlet attached to shelving is fixed equipment to me, it does not move.
