VFD cable sizing

I would like to double check my facts on sizing VFD cable that will be installed in a raceway.

For instance, I have a 20HP 480v motor I'd like to supply with #10 VFD cable from here:

http://20omgb3m0i1zjvir92mikuij.wpe...ntent/uploads/2015/02/Belden_VFD-Brochure.pdf

It states in the brochure it's considered TC-ER cable, article 392, which refers me to 310.15 for installs in raceways. Which, for all intents and purposes, is standard procedure for determining wire ampacity and adjustment factors. It seems there is no difference that this is a cable assembly in relation to ampacity requirements.

Am I on the right track? I need to get this hammered out, it seems I have quite a few more VFD cable installs coming up and I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

Thanks for the help.

Just want to make sure that you're sizing the conductors to the Drive not the motor?

Many times a drive is sized larger than the motor it is controlling.

Joe Villani

I should have mentioned, these VFD cables are between the VFD and motor. Thanks.

Ampacity of load side conductors in a VFD installation follow the same rules in 430. There are other concerns, most of which are addressed by the special VFD cable, but not Ampacity.
