Can I use a VFD controller on a 25 year old motor? The motors are 460V 30HP. I think using them might shorten the life (but they are 25 year old anyway).

At 25 YO, the motor is approaching end of life anyway, unless it has been rebuilt or not used much.

A VFD may well hasten the end.

If you want to do that, I'd suggest that you fit output line reactors between the drive and the motor.
