Apologies if I've missed this topic somewhere in the forum. New to forum, have sized and installed several VFD's on motors, but this is my first with a brake motor. I have a Leeson 1/2hp with a stearns brake. I know that wiring up the brake to the vfd leads is not feasible. Wanting to use a Powerflex 4M. Is it as simple as using the relay contact to initiate an external relay that is inline with the brake. And, can this be branched off 2 leads of the incoming to the vfd? Have done some searching on the net but only come up with vagueness. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Mike

you can usually get a contact off the VFD that comes on when you want the brake to release.

I have run across all different voltages of brakes on motors. You would have to power it from whatever voltage it needs to be.

Most I have run across are DC and can be operated from line voltage with a full wave bridge rectifier.
