was wondering if I could get some insight on what is typically done for "VFD" maintenace, just looking to add value for our customers. Thanks in advance

Here are some items to consider. Of course you'll need to modify this list as required to match the specific brand of VFD you're maintaining.

- Vacuum the dust and dirt from the VFD?s rear heatsink fins once per year or at more frequent intervals as conditions require.

- VFDs rated 125 hp and greater have air filters behind the intake louver panels mounted on the front door(s) of the enclosure. Check the filters once per year or at more frequent intervals as conditions require. Clean or replace the filters as needed.

- The VFD?s ventilation fan bearings are sealed and can not be lubricated.

- Confirm the VFD?s ventilation clearances have not been obstructed. Refer to the VFD?s instruction manual for the ventilation clearance requirements. (Note: Ventilation clearances are typically 4 to 10 inches above and below the VFD. Zero clearance is required at the sides.)

- Perform an IR thermal scan of the VFD?s power input and power output terminals to identify electrical connections which may need to be re-torqued. Do not unnecessary re-torque otherwise good connections. Consult the factory before re-torquing any internal factory-made connections.

- Record the VFD?s parameter settings. This record is required to restore a VFD installation in the event the VFD is repaired or replaced. Perform this procedure only once unless subsequent VFD programming changes have made.

- Confirm the VFD doors and covers are in place and closed.
