I have a situation where a domestic water line is installed above a VFD for a pump. I think that since 110.26(f)lists only Switchboards, Panelboards, Distribution Boards, & Motor Control Centers. That this installation does not violate 110.26(F)(1) and that this water line can remain without a drip pan installed under it.

Please let me know your thoughts or if you read something in 430 that would state that this installation has to change.

I know this is not an ideal installation but I don't think I can make the plumber move this water line without some solid code back-up.

Thanks,
Ed

Re: VFD With Water Pipe Overhead

I don't have a huge problem with it.

If the pipe springs a leak it only affects the one device.

If it was an mcc or panelboard, it would affect a lot more stuff.

how many times have you seen sprinkler piping in a room with electrical equipment in it?
