Situation:

Off the Mbr is the Mbr bath. One door to enter the bathroom. At the opposite end of the bathroom is a walkin in closet. You pass through a doorway, no door.

Homeowner wants an oulet, duplex, added in the closet for ironing so she does not have to stretch the cord from the vanity to the closet, 2'.

Using the definition of a bathroom Article 100, is the "closet" considered part of the "area" of the bathroom.

If I were to add an outlet from a lighting circuit would this cut the mustard?
Or if I added from the bathroom branch circuit would you allow this?

Remember the only access to the closet is from the bathroom.

Re: Violation?

Mike, I would think that this outlet could be run from the bathroom circuit, and it should be gfci'd. If you err, err on the side of caution!

Re: Violation?

In my opinion, this should be a gfci receptacle for the purpose that if a cord could be run from the vanity to the closet, one could run a cord from the closet to the vanity. As far as what circuit it goes on, either or would probably be okay, but will definitely depend on the AHJ designation of the closet being a separate area of the bathroom or not.

Re: Violation?

Thank you.

That is what I wanted to here. It is nice to have a sounding board.

I planned and will add to the already protected GFCI circuit.

PS this circuit is fed from another bathroom????

Re: Violation?

this circuit is fed from another bath room ??????
Now that brings up a new issue, was the original circuit one ran to feed that bath room solely or is it part of the gfi loop ??? If part of the loop then to feed another outlet on it is ok ,if it originated as a bathroom home run that fed that bathroom solely then no.

Hairdrier pulling 15 amps at the vanity while the iron is heating up in the closet??? I don't think these should be on the same circuit.

Hurk
are you single? My wife turns on all of her fixing applainces as soon as she gets out of the shower. She also goes into the spare bedroom and turns on the iron, "so it can heat up" goes fixes her hair and then irons the clothes. After that everything gets turned off. You can argue with her if you want but I have tried.
But I get in trouble for leaving the bathroom light on.
