Are any of you getting slammed from a virus. It seems to be attached to a screen saver program that is being sent as an attachment. It also is attached to several emails that are thanking me foe an application or telling me they are returning the information I requested. My IS department is telling me it is a worm virus that someone who has my email address has and will not stop until they find it and fix it. Our virus software is catching all of these. If you don't have virus software you are vulnerable.

Re: virus

Today is the worst I've seen yet for getting Viruses in my Email. I got over 125 before 12 Noon. What the #$%&^$ is going on?

Be very careful about opening any attachments even if it seems to be from someone that you know.

Subjects are varied:

Your_Details
My_Details
Details
Wicked Screensaver
Approved
Your Application
Thank You!
Re: Thank You!
That Movie
and other variations with RE: and Re:Re: before the words.

I scanned the directory where these files were and they were not recognized by Mcaffee Viruscan with an Update issued 8/18 (1 day old)

This may be a new version of the W32/Sobig.e@MM virus

This one seems like it will really cause problems.
Update your Virus Protection and keep it active!
And keep an eye out for new updates.

Re: virus

Just got home from a job. opened e-mail and did it go nuts after some research. Here's what is happening most of you probably don't have the virus. but you are getting returned e-mail just like it was sent from your computer. if you run your virus scanner it will confirm this. what has happened is this virus (W32/sobig.f@MM) will search the infected computer for e-mail address's even the ones here in this web forum that is saved to the hard drive as temporary internet file web page cache's this allows for a faster reloading of a web page. it will then start e-mailing address found in them and it will use some of these address as a forged header's making it look like you sent it (even though you didn't) and it will look like it was your computer that has the virus. but as I found out with my computer powered down there was no way it came from my computer and a scan confirmed this. what I found was about 40 returned e-mail's with forged header's that looked like I sent them and even more e-mails that looked like others sent them to me of course with the virus attached be very careful and do not click on any attachment with these e-mails as this is the only way this virus can get into your computer.
If you are infected go to McAfee and they have a easy walk through to remove it and a stand alone remover too that you boot to dos to remove it.

Re: virus

I want to keep this near the top so everyone sees it. Even with blocking a multitude of Mail Servers I got 1500 virus emails in the last 12 hrs.

Everyone: Please make sure that your system is clean. Don't click on anything that comes in an email unless you know exactly what it is. Be aware that you can't really trust that it's from the address it says it's from either.

If you don't know how to update your virus software, or scan your system you can post a question here and I'm confident that someone will try to help you.
