Hi All.
Another they another question. AV Contractor is having problems with his equipment and he is trying to insulate possible power supply surges. I was asked if there is such a tester that could be connected to the MCBP to monitor and record (for few days )what is happening on each ungrounded and grounded conductors.
Any help is appreciated.

While you certainly can the rent equipment, IMO you'd be better off subing this out and marking up the sub's number. Find a testing company with the equipment , training and understanding of what they are doing.

Now if you see a good market in your area for this by all means step up and rent the equipment, give yourself a day or two for self training and setup, downloading and reporting.

Tom is right, renting might be a better option unless you're a heavy-user of PQ equipment. You'll get a calibrated unit and support that way.

If you can record waveforms, you could email them to Dranetz-BMI & Electrotek waveform@electrotek.com. More information available at Power Quality Waveform Library

You'll note it mentions a free program TOP, The Output Processor? that reads some PQ data formats. However, it isn't easy to use as the analysis programs offered for purchase by Dranetz-BMI or Fluke.

Unytko: you can get some basic PQ information free at Power & Energy Webinars

a lot, Dranetz has the Explorer, Fluke has its 435, etc.

it all comes down as to the person doing the measuring - how and where the recorder was installed and how good at reading waveforms
