Hi, just registered but have been visiting the sight for some time. Lots of good info. I have an application where there are (8) 20w, 10vdc lights 120' from my control panel. My question is, can I use a 12vdc power supply and use the voltage drop in the wiring to supply the 10vdc to the lights? Is there any possibility of a code violation?

Of course there is a possibility of a code violation! There always is 
However operating a nominal 10V lamp from a nominal 12V supply is not a code violation. It is a design issue affecting lamp brightness and life.

We had just done the same type of project here and worked out very well. The AHJ in our area was pleased with it and had thought it was good thinking. Michigan by the way. Go Blue!!!

I'd be interested in the results if either of you could do a voltage check, and see what happens at the end of the line if you remove a bulb or two from the load.
