when fiquring out VD for a service starting at the xformer to your first switch do you have to carry the same size wire after your first switch through the entire run if the run after the switch is shorter?

Not sure if this is what you want.

I ffigure the vd for each section of wire. Calculate the VD of the first, then use that answer for the voltage applied to the next section and calculate again. Repeat as needed.

I thimk you answered my question I always did it the way you stated, but I was recently told I had to carry the same size conductor throught to my last distination point, inwhich i don't agree.

You are free to upsize and downsize your conductors as often as you like as long as you never fall be the minimum size allowed.
