I recently read that a voltage regulator should never be installed in line with an UPS as such an installation has adverse effects on the operation and will shorten the regulator's life cycle. What is the primary issue with such an installation and why would damage and shorten the life of the regulator? This particular case involves the installation of a Sola regulator with a Powerware Ferrups tower.

putting a voltage regulator upstream of a UPS is creating redundancy. a UPS has voltage regulation capabilities itself, it is just wasting the voltage regulator.

other than that, I do not have any issues with the setup.
