ok I need some help im arguing with my PM who is a master electrician about a name plate that doesn't make sense. It says 208v/230v and for the mocp it says 40a/50a. My argument is that the higher voltage would get the smaller mocp. His is that they correlate how they were printed on the name plate. Can any one tell me who is correct?

He is correct because this equipment likely contains a resistive heating element which would have a higher current rating at the higher voltage.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Motor load would tend to draw less amps at a higher voltage and resistive loads draw more at higher voltage. So you have to know what the item is. If its a black box and you dont know what it is or it is mixed, I would maybe follow the order of the numbers with the slashes. The amps before the slash go with the voltage before the slash, and amps after the slash for the voltage after the slash.
