voltages

contractor has 4 switches in a 4 gang box; 277volt each, multiwire circuits. Inspector said he cannot have more than 300 volts in each box. Where is this one written?

Not sure but he's right. They make matal deviders for gangable boxes.

One work around is if there not on a multi-wire circuit (fat chance for that) then you can put them on the same phase and you wont have any voltage between the switches.
