I am having some issues with voltage surges causing error codes on the outdoor units. I want to add some protection to ensure the controller does not get damaged.

I looked into ICM controls and they make surge protectors you can install at the panel or at the euqipment disconnect. There are also line voltage monitors such as this: https://www.icmcontrols.com/product/icm450a/ that is is installed on an air handler compressor.

Has anyone use these line voltage monitors in VRF applications? Not sure how it would work in a variable speed compressor application.

Your thread title says "spikes" but your question is about "surges". Which is it?
