Installing a circuit for a Vulcan range, 208, 3 phase, 17KW. I have a call out to Vulcan to see if this needs a neutral. I haven't done many commercial ranges in a long time. Anyone done one lately? Do some models need a neutral? I know every standard range I ever wired needed one. This is a Vulcan Model EV36S-6FP208.

What I see online there is no neutral involved. The voltage is 208/240 and can be single or 3 phase. It also comes in a 480V unit.

put one in. any controls will need a neutral, most likely.
it's looking like there aren't much in the way of controls.

i'd put a neutral in, anyway.

edit: smarter folk than i have weighed in. i'd still put
a neutral in.

I probably would unless I had the installation manual in front of me when calculating the cost of the circuit.

Just like at gun, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

The installation manual is where we got the info. Some single-phase connections require a neutral, none of the three-phase connections do.

None of the three phase do. That's good because I have often had problems with what shows up not exactly being what I was told or information provided. But then I have installed a lot of used equipment in restaurants.

Tech who called back was great. Offered to e mail diagrams which Weren’t in online owner’s manual. Doesn’t spec a neutral for this voltage but I agree, better to have it there. We priced for it and are installing it. Too many unknowns when unit is not on site. A different model may show up or it may have some added feature not told earlier.

Murphy shows up when you least expect him. ?

Thanks for the feedback.

Range came in way sooner than expected. Created some havoc.

3 phase, no neutral. Connections are sort of buried in a recessed box up front. Terminals about 16 inches deep, opening only about 4x5, can’t get both hands in very well. Also, terminals were torn type, 1st I ever saw. Most are slotted or hex, I’ve seen a few square recessed too. Now I need to get torx sockets & also a 12” extension. I almost couldn’t do this hookup. I did have a torx folder set.

Weird for sure. Terminal block mounted on back wall of recessed box. A set of leads to splice to would make more sense there.
