Where would I find a website that lists the qualifications necessary to get liscensed in Washington state? I am getting out of the army Prime Power school in a few months and would like to come out as close to being certified as possible.

Thanks. I also checked out the requirements on Mike's page just a moment ago. Good stuff. It looks like I will have to have 4000 hours before I even take the test though :(

No big deal I guess. It will make it more valueable when I get there.

How many military hours do you have? Do you get credit for those? I hope so.

In CA, unless the final draft got changed the requirement is 2000 hours, so you might want to start out in CA :)

Your military electrical construction experience or experience in a specialized electrical field may be allowed toward the hours required for a journeyman or specialty certification in Washington. The web site previously given has the information or you can call 360-902-5269 to speak to someone in Electrical Licensing and Certification. Good luck!

Army21p ,There are specialty licenses and the general journeyman's license. The general journeyman's license covers all the specialty licenses. For example I tested for and received a specialty {residential} license before i got my general journeyman's.The residential license required 2000 hours of residential experience documented, working under the direct supervision of a licensed residential electrician or general journeyman. The G.J{general Journeyman} license requires a combination of 2000 hours in a specialty plus 2000 hours documented in commercial/industrial.Don't forget you have to pass the test too.The specific information as too if they will credit you hours for your military experience can be found in the W.A.C rules. You can get a copy at any State L&I{Labor and Industries} office. The advantage to going there in person is that you will probably get to talk in person with an electrical inspector and /or supervisor. Also you need to get a trainee card. They renew now every 2 years and will cost you roughly 43 dollars.Hope this helps.
