Hey there fellow electricians.
Im preparing for my journeymens license exam. Im a certified journeyman (IEC class of 2010) I've taken the exam in Florida but Washington requires their exam. Later this month ill be in a prep class but i want to be prepared. Any tips or advice? What are some of the problems you have had with testing in Washington?

I thought the test was pretty straightforward and typical. I got about a 90 without studying, which is what I usually get. Hardest part might be the RCW/WAC sections as they are lots of super boring legal mumbo jumbo stuff that can be tedious to look up.

Washington requires 96 hours of basic classroom electrical prior to testing but if you came from the IEC perhaps you were in an apprenticeship and that doesn't apply
We also have a serious shortage of 01s and there is an emergency rule that allows you start work immediately and have 90 days to take the test and get certified.
here is the link this info

I have had two coworkers approached about taking jobs in Seattle.

I agree the RCW/WAC can be confusing, I have taught it for 10 years and am still learning.
You can always take the test, and only have to retake what you don't pass, but need to wait two weeks to retest.

Purchase a WAC & RCW from the WA Labor and Industries office, they cost $5 each its a requirement to pass the Journeyman exam. You will have 17 questions pertaining to wac & rcw. You can put them in a 3 ring binder, my wife spiral bind mine.

Took Washington exam in febuary. Passed it. Used mike holt's electrical exam preperation book. It help me to navigate through the nec better. Missed one question on code and 2 questions on rcw/wac. Wish you well on the test.
