My colleague in the IT side of the business informs me that 48 inches above finished floor is a common location, but he doubts there is a code or standard that actually calls for any specific height.

At a counter top area (that has upper cabinets) we install at 48". If no upper then at 60".

In a residential dwelling, I've always put them at five feet. Same as thermostats.

Assuming you mean the telephone is wall mounted, I'd go with 5'. Not a standard, but a keypad at 4' is difficult to use for most people. I would mount at 4' if I knew a wheelchaired person, or little person resided there.

IMO, the OP can be considered two ways:

• The telephone is to be mounted to the outlet.
• The telephone is not to be mounted to the outlet.

Oh, no. Not that....

IIRC, most wall-mount sets either want it tab down or have a short cable to connect in. Sadly, my 1977 Station Service Manual from Bell does not specify a mounting height, as far as I can tell. Kind of surprising, considering the detail on other subjects.

I would say twelve inches to the center if it's resi. 15 inches to the bottom of the box if it commercial. If it's wall mount I would say the same height as the counter recepts if it's resi. What ever the ADA says if it's commercial
