Re: wall receptacles 1981

Thomas,Are you referring to 250.74(1984)? Connecting receptacle grounding terminal to box .
An equipment bonding jumper shall be used to connect the grounding terminal of a grounding-type receptacle to a grounded box.

were wall receptacles required to be grounded or bonded in 1981?

were wall receptacles required to be grounded or bonded in 1981?

The grounding of receptacles was required in 1962, which is the oldest NEC I have.
Section 250-75 Bonding at Grounding-type Receptacles. States the following: Where there is likelihood that grounding continuity, especially at flush-type boxes, will not be maintained between a grounded outlet box and the grounding circuit of the receptacle through the mounting yoke, a bonding jumper shall connect the grounding terminal of the receptacle the to grounded box.
If the house was built and inspected using the 1962 NEC all receptacle would be required to be grounded through a bounding jumper, if flush-type boxes could not maintain continuity through the mounting yoke a bonding would be required.

Wouldn't that only apply to "grounding-type" receptacles, and not "all" receptacles? I'm quite sure the requirement for 100% use of grounding receptacles was not yet in effect.

Why are you asking? Check with local AHJ. In Florida a lot of communities pretty much didn't have many requirements in '81.

You are right, but non-grounding type receptacles do not have grounding terminates. what i should have said is all other grounding type receptacle would have to met the requirements of Section 250-75.
