Re: wall recepticals

If your talking about where the grounded opening is in relation on top or below the phase conductor, there is no special requirements. In hospital installation they like to have the ground on top so as to prevent foreign objects from falling across the phase and neutral prongs of a plug. For horizontally mounted receptacles, most good electricians will put the neutral on the top to prevent foreign objects from falling down onto the phase prong.

I like to put the ground down when vertically mounted so it looks more like this:

PS: I've noticed many commercial jobs go ground up. Oh, and look at a GFCI receptacle some time: No matter up or down you can still read the writing. That might be a hint that it does not matter. It's mostly what you are used to.

which means the rest of the good electricians will put the neutral on the bottom. :)

Here's something to think about,

hey guys, Be nice. I too get tired of getting the same threads over and over and over ......, but we have a newbie here. They were not here to see all of the other post. (Registered 9/10)

ksaltz, Before posting a thread on a question, it would help, and possibly more informative to search the archives first. A lot of information there.
