Wall switch used as disconnect

There is nothing that says you can't but as Chris has said it would depend on what it was controlling. I have used a dp 30 amp snap switch as a disco for a water heater.

I use a standard single pole switch for a disconnect on furnaces all the time.

Remember, a disconnect for motors 430.104 and appliances 422.35 must be indicating, so Decora type switches would not be acceptable.

A one circuit disconnect comes to mind as in 225.39 and230.79

Remember, a disconnect for motors 430.104 and appliances 422.35 must be indicating, so Decora type switches would not be acceptable.

You can write 'on' and 'off' on the decora switch!! and get it UL listed.

cant help it dennis this disrupting thread thing is normal around here..kind of like disrupting a load with a switch..It can be done as long as the switch is listed for the use and can be locked out without using a portable lockout device if it is not with in site..Now back to dennis my address is 17118 and what does the red hair have to do with it..I will have to look up the code section for the switch thing if it is necessary..
