If a panel is 5.75" deep, what's the minimum required wall thickness to accommodate a flush mounted panel? Would 6" work?

Would assume that with a 2x6" being nominal 5.5" and 1/2" drywall a 5.75" deep panel would be flush inside a 2x6 wall. Dont think Ive ever seen 2x8 studs anywhere.

We show them in 2x6 walls all the time. But that's normally commercial projects with steel studs. I think steel studs are a full 6" deep.

Even so, it should fit in a wall with a 5.5" deep wood stud if you have at least 1/2" of drywall. That leaves a 1/4" of space behind the panel.

Steel studs are available with either 5 1/2" or 6" webs. So regardless of which one is used, or if using wood studs which are 5 1/2 inches, the panelboards will fit within a wall with 2 x 6 framing.

Load centers are designed to be capable of being flush-mounted within a wall using 2 x 4 framing.
