Hi, Have an existing washer and dryer hook up down in the basement. Homeowner would like to relocate the washer hookup to the kitchen and the dryer hookup to the adjacent bedroom. Is there anything in the code to prevent this? Also are these circuits exempt from the AFCI requirements? Can I just extend them by installing junction boxes from their current location and running from the new junction boxes to the new locations? Note that dryer is 240V 3 wire.

If you relocate, you would be upgrading and therefore be required to go 4 wire on the dryer. No arc fault on the dryer in the bedroom...see 210.12. I think you should run a dedicated circuit to the washer as it is a relocate/upgrade.
