210.12 (B) Does not require 240v outlets to be AFCI, but if it is 120v, it would be on its own circuit, and I think it would fit into the requirements of 210.12 (B). As far as GFCI, 210.18 (7) requires all 120v receptacles within 6 feet of a sink to be protected. If there is no sink it does not need to be GFCI.

Thanks. I had read that section but wasn't sure if someone had said a washer is a "sink". It's funny that a machine full of water is not "a sink" and does not require a GFI. I wouldn't want a GFI on a washer, due to the inconvenience of resetting it.

If the receptacle for the washer is within 6' of a laundry sink it must be GFCI protected.

Washers function fine on a modern GFCI protected circuit. If the GFCI is tripping it is most likely due to a faulty washing machine.
