I’m looking to get my admin. Mainly to be able to do some small jobs/side work but legally. Anyone with experience in the last couple years in Washington state taking the admin test? Is a resi test different than a general admin? One considered “easier than the other” thanks

Both are challenging tests, of course the 02 resi test is easier. If you are studying, might as well take the 01 general journey level. Use the Mike holt exam prep, do 100 questions a week, 10-20 hours.

They are 2/3 equal. The other 1/3 of the admin is 10 questions of calculations. This sections requires preparation and study.

Yeah i bought his full exam prep. Slowly going through it to refresh my code and study the calcs. Definitely have learned I’m not a “self study” type.

When you test for 01 (journeylevel) it covers all of the code. For specialty, the tests are based on scope of work. For example a 02 Residential Electrician will have questions on Hazardous Locations, as some occupancies have have hazardous locations that an 02 is allowed to work on.

Also you will be tested on theory. You are tested on what you are required to know, not what you do on the job.

Thanks for replies. I have my 01. Been a wireman 20 years now. But code update classes are a joke and if you don’t use it. You lose it. The calcs are what I’m worried most about. And all I’m looking to do is be “legal” to so some resi stuff for a few buddies that are real estate guys.

The admin test calc questions are hard. There are three sections to the test, you only have to retake the section you don’t pass. You could take the test just to see what it’s like, retake those failed sections
