Im visiting Seattle area in august just to see if I will enjoy living there. I know it is not the right time of year for the rain but I am looking to get away from the cold and humidity in Mass.Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how the field is doing, the weather, fair contractors to work for, etc, etc.Ill be there on one weekday friday august 13th all day.If all sounds, looks and feels well I will move next september 2005.Im also swaying more towards solar because Im not finding much dignity lately installing 50,000 recessed lights in one kitchen for the high end residential Im doing here in Boston area 30percent of my work is commercial. To whoever is out there. Thankyou.

Re: Washington State

We get only 100 days of sunshine a year. The view out of Frasiers window on TV is fake. Its a misconception it rains a lot, it rains a little bit all the time. Near Puget Sound the temp is moderated by the sound, some snow, slushy. I am west of Seattle, over here the market is pretty good, we didn't take the big hit when the dotcoms hit a few years ago. Take the ferry from the Seattle waterfront to Bainbridge Island or Bremerton if you want a nice ride. The Bremerton run in longer at 60 minutes. Lots of high end on Bainbridge Island.
I don't see much solar, it can be done in this area.
Tom from Bremerton.

Re: Washington State

Come to Florida! Not only does it not snow here, but there is enough work for every contractor to hire 5 journeyman electricians and still be too busy.

Housing is ridiculus, commercial is steading, and alternative energy is booming. If your into solar power systems, where better to be than the sunshine state. I am currently working on project community that is powered by a fuel cell station off the utility grid. Its quite facinating.

Re: Washington State

The fuel cell system I would like to see.
I can't advise you too much on the economy here, I'm not in that loop.

Re: Washington State

How about Vancouver WA. (3.5 hours south of Seattle). Weather is better than Seattle, economy did slow for a while but it's coming back. There's commercial work over the river in Portland. However I like it on this side of the river better. The I-5 corrider North thru Clark County is poised to boom with commercial in the near future. Check out the demographics.
