Water feature in hotel

I have water feature in hotel that has no lights but has gfci 120V receptacle motor located remote to water feature in closet.


I am wondering what does NEC 2017 section 680.54(2) and 680.54(3) mean? Do they mean grounding thru EGC or thru GEC ? Exactly what they mean

Those sections are referring to equipment. Thus logic dictates it would be referring to EGC not GEC also the follow up in 680.55 would also indicate EGC is being referenced as it being directly stated, along with further reference to GFCI protections, (Not provided by use of the GEC).
