Water Fountain GFCI

Hey guys, Sorry I keep asking questions so frequently, but I just want to learn.

Article 210.8 states that GFCI protection shall be required for parts A - D, and "the GFCI" (meaning the gfci relating to parts A - D) be installed in a readily accessible location.

422.52 States that electric drinking fountains shall be protected with GFCI protection.

Electric drinking fountains are not mentioned in 210.8 A - D.

Does this mean the GFCI can be placed in a not readily accessible location, behind the shell of the fountain on the wall for example?

If the NEC wanted every single GFCI protection to be readily accessable, wouldnt all GFCI required items be listed in 210.8 A - D? Or wouldnt the wording be "GFCI protection shall be readily accessible" instead of "the GFCI" as it pertains to parts 210.8 A - D?

Thanks for feedback!

I agree with you. The only gfci's that are required to be readily accessible are in 210.8 unless mentioned in other articles. This may be an oversight IDK

From the 2014:

422.5 Ground Fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection:

"The device providing GFCI protection required in this article shall be readily accessible".

Don't worry about asking questions here and there is no such thing as a stupid question.:)

422.5 was new in 2014. 2011 the drinking fountain GFCI could have been behind the drinking fountain.

And the op is on the 2014 according to his profile........

You are right though- Don't see it in the old 2011.

The article is small and easy to miss.:)
