Water Heater Disconnect

Hello, new to forum...

I am having a new water heater installed tomorrow morning. Bought this log home from the builder 14 years ago. Our county requires NO electrical permits and/or inspections. Yeah, ridiculous.

To the point:

I am having a new 10/2 AWG run today, (new heater is being installed in different location of basement). Original install had no disconnect switch and romex top fed directly into the old heater. New feed will be to code.

The existing circuit is 240VAC, double-pole, on a 20A breaker. Upgrading that to 30A.

For the disconnect switch, I am assuming that I need a double pole, non-fused, switch as well, correct? Or can it be single pole?

The local big box store only shows single pole in stock and the nearest Graybar is 50 miles from me and of course not open today.

Would sincerely appreciate your input as soon as possible and I thank you in advance.

The disconnect switch must be two pole and it can be a variety of types. They have something in stock that would work.

But if the panel feeding this unit is in sight less than 50' from the water heater you do not need another disconnecting means.

A 60 ampere non fusible pullout A/C disco is just about the most economical disconnect around.

Hey Norcal, yep that's what I was looking for at HD but none in stock (per their store inventory online).

Only one in stock is single pole, ($6.98) unfortunately.

About to head down there, hopefully their website in incorrect. (as usual  )

Most times.. The Solar company re-installing the solar heater tank at a job of mine two weeks ago , lost the pull out handle from the disco, and I had to end up replacing the unit. The field workers claimed they never did anything or touched it, but when I first left the job before they showed up, nothing was energized nor hooked up to the unit, just mounted to the wall. They fibbed.
