Water heater inside electrical room

We share electrical and mechanical room. Is it okay to locate water heater in front of main electrical gear? (If we meet the clearance per NEC 110.26)?

I wouldn't worry about it. Mechanical rooms are usually full of electrical equipment along with water, sprinkler or steam pipes.

Actually - aside from a spraying leak, there is more risk if the water heater were on a floor above the electric equipment and started leaking than there is just sitting in front of the electrical equipment.
