I was given awater line ground clamp to install today.
The main water line is a 5" pipe.
I was given a Appleton GC-6 clamp, that can be viewed at this site:

http://www.appletonelec.com/pdf/NEERGroundClamps.pdf

The GEC is a 4/0.
This ground clamp has a termination hole sized at 0.30" as the site shows.
I brought this size difference to my foreman's attention, his solution was to remove the terminating screw and use the screw to attach a mechanical lug to the clamp. This doesn't seem to be the proper way to use this clamp. I am assuming that we have the wrong type of clamp. Which clamp should have been supplied?

Water Pipe Clamp

Water Pipe Clamp

"For insulated or bare conductor wire, copper AWG #2 through #10."

I think that the spec answers the question although I have seen what you described many times.
This would be a better choice. It will accept up to a 4/0 AWG:

The next page (D31) has a clamp that is set up to receive any size lug (up to 750 KCMIL) that you care to use.

Thank you dezwitinc,
That looks like the perfect product. A clamp with a drilled plate to accept a compression lug. I like it.
I am one of those pain in the butt people that likes to use the right tool for the job.
Also, page D40 has a water line clamp for pipe size 2.5-4 with a wire range 6-250MCM.
