this is a remodel job for a 2 unit residential job. there is a 200amp 2 gang meter socket with no disconnects. it will have 2 100amp main panels next to eachother in the basement. the building only has 1 water meter to service both units. what is the proper way to run the ground wire from the water meter to the service equipment? do I make 2 separate runs and take one each from water meter to each main panel or run 1 conducter to 1 panel? can someone provide some guidance and references to back up the proper installation?

You can do either..a separate conductor from each service disconnect or a single conductor to the panel location and tap from each panel.
(The single conductor would need to be sized based on the service size)
If POCO allows, you could also run one GEC from the meters.
