Watthour meter in plenum space

We want to temporarily (for several months) monitor power consumption of two fluorescent fixtures in an overhead plenum space above the lay-in ceiling.

We propose to use a SJ corded, with a three prong plug, watthour meter. The two fixtures would be plugged into the meter.

How do we meet code in this temporary metering installation?

Thank you.

Re: Watthour meter in plenum space

Article 527.3(C) deal with temporary testing and time constraints.

However, is the overhead space above the lay-in ceiling actually a plenum or are their separate supply and return ducts? I'm not to sure that SJ would be plenum rated.

May I ask the purpose of this?

We install power monitoring equipment quite often but it is always at a panel or service which has load diversity.

There is no load diversity in two fluorescent fixtures other than perhaps the run time which should be able to be reasonably estimated.

I would think you would just take a reading of the power consumed by one fixture while running and extrapolate that into what is used by both for several months.
