Can someone please tell me what the recommended lighting level (watts/sq. ft.) is for a Maintenance Garage? I have a 6,000 square foot facility and am trying to figure out if the existing lighting is sufficient. Thanks!

This may sound silly, but having a background in facilities/maintenance - has anyone thought to ask the people working in this area if the existing light was sufficient?

This may not apply to you - per the CA Energy Code - they have Lighting Density Value [Watts/s.f.] tables in their code providing various lighting densities for various areas or tasks. The CA Energy Code is free from the CA Energy Commission. These values are the maximum wattage/s.f. allowed.

For example: under the category 'General Commercial & Industrial Work - Table 146-C, they allow 1.1 watt/s.f. for high bay applications; 1.0 w/s.f. for low bay; 1.3 w/s.f. for precision + for all categories they allow an additional .5 w/s.f. for specific tasking.
