Way oversized generator to be installed?

I have a commercial customer who wants to install a 180 kw 3 phase generator that he got cheap.
He has a 200 amp single phase service. I can't think of any violations here installing a much oversized generator ?
I just don't know how the generator will fare with only using 2 phases? Any direction would be helpful.

The generator can probably be connected 'double delta' to give single phase output.

The woefully underutilized generator will probably be very fuel inefficient and might have other functional problems in the engine.

Cheap usually has a reason. The last one we hooked up had multiple problems, fixable but they still needed to be corrected prior to operation.

If it is diesel and not loaded over 50% it will cause wet stacking and cause fuel to go past the piston rings and dilute the oil causing engine failure.

Roughly 375 amp 1PH just to load it up. ouch.

I would highly recommend he get a different unit. Fuel consumption is ~5-13gph diesel. Buying a single part for it may cost more than an entire 20kw generator. He will never be able to load it to even 20% capacity, which if diesel, will cause problems windingelectric mentioned. If it's natural gas, the gas co WILL have to run a new service to feed it. It's gonna be loud too. Regular servicing of the unit will be $$$$.

It may not be possible to wire it to the voltage of his service. Add a transformer to the cost.

He could probably sell it and buy a new, smaller generator that would suit his needs much better.

Does he have neighbors close by? If so, have him form an emergency power cooperative and ask the neighboring businesses if they would like to buy a share of the generator. Of course, some feeders would have to be installed.

If he's got it, and wants it, don't sweat the small stuff,,,,hook it up and let it rock and roll.

I'm familiar with 3 diesel sets that have been in use since 1981. All 3 are tested weekly and then monthly with dummy load just to get them to 30%. All 3 seem to be doing fine. However, they are well taken care of.
