I had done some work for a couple last month that were buying a house that used to be two apartments. One was upstairs, one was downstairs. They pay two utility bills. Owner calls me,...."Brad, it seems all of the stuff upstairs doesn't work along with a couple of other things. I checked all of the fuses visually, and they all look okay.

Well, after doing previous work for them, I felt like,,....oh, great:rolleyes:

I get there, and go directly to the service. There you have it. Well Daren, there's your problem. "WHAT Brad, what do you mean???"

POCO mistakenly pulled one meter on a ghost disconnect call:grin:

Sad thing is they said it would be the first of next week before they resat the meter. The very unhumble HO changed some tunes real quick over the phone:grin: New meter in 25 minutes:wink:

EDIT: Spelling

 It would have been better if they had forgotten to pay one of the bills and poco did a nonpayment disconnect:grin:

POCO took the, "Sorry we screwed up" route. They told the HO it would be the first of the next week before they replaced the meter. I pulled a permit awhile back and told them I would call when the HO had the money for the upgrade. Six weeks later, the Grid came and pulled the meter without verification. The HO called the Grid, and they asked for my phone number so they could verify the disconnect before it was done. THEY HAD MY NUMBER IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I laughed about it, the HO went nuts!!!!!!!!!! Very irate to say the least.

In my area, if one converts a two-family dwelling to a one-family dwelling, the applicable provisions of the building code, and by reference the NEC, would apply. This might trigger differing interpretations of the grouping of disconnects, two meters to one tenancy, 3-way switches at stairway locations, interconnection of single and multiple-station smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, feeding remote panelboards with 4-conductors and isolating the neutrals, and a host of other issues.
These conversions almost always present interesting issues.
