I'm looking for a weather proof cover that will fit on a 4 inch round bell box. The cover needs to hold a heavy metal halide light fixture with a half inch male threaded knuckle. The fixtures are on a roof with high winds and the cast aluminum covers are breaking. Anybody have and ideas? I found some explosion proof covers, buy they are not threaded.

Re: Weather proof cover

Get a 1/2" pipe extender (nipple extender) and screw it into the aluminum cover. Then brace the pipe extender in two directions (like a service drop periscope is braced). Then hang the fixture on the braced pipe extender. A pipe extender is a MxF short nipple. Or, use a pipe and coupler to get enough purchase for your bracing system. Or, just brace the fixture directly by Tek screwing some EMT braces (flatten the each end of the EMT).

Check on Crouse Hinds part #GRF 11 (1/2") or #GRF 12 (3/4") These are iron.

Thanks Roger, it's hard to explain anything to the desk monkeys at the supply house. There's no substitute for field experience!
