hi,i was wondering where you are suppose to use weatherproof wirenut?i never see them in outside fixtures or bell boxes.also my no-lox bottle says it's for al/cu connections so can you just put a regular wirenut on after using it?where and how can this no-lox be used?thanks.

Right here.
The "weatherproof" wirenuts are a gimmick, in my opinion. They have grease in them that I swear must just be Vaseline. If I feel the need to weatherize a wirenut by some means, I just squirt my regular B-Cap full of silicone.

weatherproof wirenuts? Are you subjecting your wirenuts to the weather? I usually fill a normal wirenut with silicone in situations where water may be a factor. Typically in underground connections.

I use no-lox in meter cans and distribution panels. It helps to keep down the corrosion of primary connections

I don't believe the purpose of No lox is to put copper and aluminum together. It is for aluminum to aluminum. Using No lox on copper to aluminum would not mean that you could use a standard wirenut. I don't think so anyway.

How many of you truly confide in No-Ox? I use it myself, but to no serious conclusion. You don't see the utility using it, not here anyway.

I use it on all connections with aluminum wire. POCO uses something similar.

I agree with sparky. There are ones with silicone and there are ones with epoxy in them also. The epoxy ones are a pain because as you tighten it on it does whatever it does and if you get that stuff on you it's heck to pay getting it off.

You cannot use any old wire nut for cu/al or even al/al the wirenut has to be listed.

NEC 110.14 No physical contact between dissimilar metals, unless device is identified for use. Standard wirenut is not!

Standard wirenut with silicon is not suitable for wet locations but if it flies with the AHJ probably nothing wrong with it.

Please correct me if I am wrong but, I think nolox is conductive. I have used the WP wire nuts for years in outdoor and underground applications. Otherwise I dip them in the scotchcoat can. (dont do it hot!)
BTW, no matter how tight you think you put the top back on the scotchcoat, it will leak out if its turned on its side:mad:

The only place that I ever saw them used was on my "Invisble Fence" pet containment sytem. The installer laid the loop around the yard, and tied it to the sender with weatherproof wirenuts and then buried the whole mess. The company has no license, and seems to squeak by without anyone realizing it. In my opinion, they need to be licensed to install this system (In Mass anyway!). While on the subject, they installed a ground rod for the fence (at the house, tied to the transmitter mounted in the house). You should have seen the look when I asked them how they planned on bonding it to my other ground rods for my service.
