Weekly Dumb Question-- Taps ?

A 200A fused disconnect switch with 150A fuses is fed by 1/0 service conductors. On the load side are duplex lugs.

Can the tap rules of 240.21 be applied to conductors fed from these duplex lugs ?

E.g. #8 s can run less than 3m in conduit to a subpanel where they
are protected by a 40A breaker ?

The tap rules will permit that installation.

I agree this is permitted.

Just be careful about the length of the installation of the tap. The length is measured from termination to termination, not the length of the raceway.

Thanks guys. I don't run into this situation that often, and have to refresh my memory.

One more question: say I run over the 10 feet, it will only be a few inches, maybe a foot. Now I am into the 25 foot tap rule.

#8s are 50A in the 75 degree column, 1/0 is 150. So that is still OK. But in the 90 degree column it comes out a little
less. Should it be upsized to #6 or is the 75 degree column OK since that's probably what the lugs are rated ?
