I recently looked at a job at a weld shop to add 2 50 amp 480 rec but outta space in mdp and 480 panel to save cost i suggested we tap into two of the six welder rec in gutter using correct size wire and approved splicing methods like ilscos since they only run three welders at a time they just need add rec to cut down on ext cords on floor we would label each rec to avoid trying to plug into two on same circuit but they were concerned about nec i cant find anywher that talks about this issue help would be great

Note it says nothing about number of outlets.
 
Depending on the size of the welders and their duty cycles, you may be able to run two welders on the same circuit. See 630.11(A) for each welder, 630.11(B) for how to handle groups of welders. You may be able to increase the overcurrent protection and leave the wires and receptacles sized as is.

AHJ may require signage limiting one welder per circuit if you can't make the sizes work.

???? I believe if you put in more than one receptacle outlet?then you are signifying that more than one piece of equipment will be used or may be used on that circuit!
 
No. You could just be indicating that the equipment could be moved from place to place.
Now if there are two receptacles on the same circuit right next to each other I would be more suspicious.

LOL! Its the same regardless! But I get your point. But, for someone who overlooks the rule would mean they aren?t paying attention to Maximum load permitted.
 
If there is more than one portable welder in the facility which uses the same type receptacle and there is also more than one branch circuit to accommodate using both, that is a very good argument for one receptacle per circuit, since there is a limit to what you can expect to do with labelling.

Anything can be argued, but the fact remains that if you disagree with the wording you can always submit a proposal (or suggestion, input, fanny slap or whatever they're calling it next cycle) and attempt to amend the wording to what you believe it should say.

For now, an individual branch circuit can have unlimited receptacles. :)
