welding cable

Is it legal to use welding cable for feeders? I cant find anything in the code that says you cant. The only reason I can see that you can't use it is that the feeder is under ground and the welding cable is rated for 90C. It was suggested that I use it for a 500kw genarator install. I've used it on soft starts and vfd's but i've never used it underground.

"welding cable" as such is not a 310.13 or 400.4 recognized conductor.
If it has an additional recognized insulation just as RHW, or type W then it may be used.
Note it is likely fine strand and will need special listed termination fittings.
