In the code it allows you to splice conductor's or terminate grounding electrode conductor's by welding, among other's . Just curious is that Aluminum only? or can you also weld copper and if so what kind of welder would you use?

it is also acceptable to Braze copper to copper, or copper to steel, with the correct type of welding rod/ brazing rod. I have yet to see an aluminum conductor welded, not that it can't be done, it just takes a lot more equipment to do it, such as a tig welder, and in the field that is a lot of effort.
With a copper weld it only takes a torch and a piece of brazing rod or a cadweld mold.
