Well pump circuit

Does a well pump circuit need a gfci breaker / need to be gfci protected? The circuit runs outside obviously. The well guy says this is the problem for the random trips the customer is getting.

There is not a requirement for a well pump to be GFCI protected.

No GFCI required, but I'd meg it while I was there especially if it had ran successfully at one time.
