Not sure I if you have a grounded delta, ungrounded delta, or a Hi leg. You need to provide more information.

Legit or not will depend on how it is done and who does it.

Are you wanting to feed the 3-ph motor with a 120v 1-ph from the shed, or are you wanting to take 120v from the 3-ph service for receptacles in the shed?

this is the way i read it. i'm still waiting on an answer to tom's question before giving any input. i would rather know that fullamp knows what he's looking at, rather than say, "well if you have this. . . .".

A simple one-line sketch would be most appropriate to visually demonstrate exactly at what point you desire to tap the service. Hint: Lets hope it is after the meter and before the combination starter!
