What is the best and most economical to connect wires in a parking lot in ground which is in asphalt and water can get to them. voltage is 277/480 volt and wires are # 4 AWG
Is it ok to use a wire nut filled with silicone?
Thanks

I sometimes use a wire nut filled with silicone on #12 and smaller, but in your case with the #4's, I sure wouldn't. For your #4's, the cheapest way I'd feel comfortable with is probably a butt splice crimp with a heavywall heat shrink tube over it. The best way is probably with a Scotchcast or similar kit. Is this direct burial or in a Quazite box? If it's in a Quazite box, I'd just H-tap it and snap over the plastic H-tap cover (cost, about 2 dollars per splice).

Aline,

Do they make a "mini" version of this for #8 and #10 wire? thought I saw something like this at a trade show not long ago, but it was for 8,10 and 12.

Thanks

Those are pretty nice. I wonder if they're rated for al-cu connections. They look a heck of a lot easier to use than split bolts. The Polaris Blue is what you're looking for. On page 3 of that link it says that "4-6 AWG" is the smallest size available.

But then they say: "Let us custom engineer and fabricate a UL Listed direct burial and submersible
insulated connector for your next project. Choose any combination and quantity
of our standard Polaris Blue and we’ll build a connector to meet your exact requirements."
