I am reviewing a restaurant/bar drawing. The bar receptacles aren't shown as GFCI. Only a couple are within 6' of the sink, but a couple more are obviously for blenders and other devices that should have GFCI. I don't see any permanent cooking devices. There are coolers. How can I insist on GFCI for these receptacles? The bar is in a different room from the kitchen.

Why do you think blenders and similar appliances should have GFCI? Not saying it's a bad idea, but they're not likely to fall into a sink or anything (since it's over 6' away).

Your options are limited by what your actual involvement in the project is. If you're checking a co-worker's design, pull him aside and make a suggestion. If you've been hired to review another company's design, you could give a recommendation and explain your reasoning. If you're a building department plan checker, you're probably out of luck because the code doesn't require GFCI in this instance. Save the telling people what they have to do for things that are required by code.

The 2008 NEC applies.

i asked which year because they keep changing GFCI requirements.

That said there is no 2008 NEC requirement for GFCIs at wet bars in other than dwelling units. I think you are stuck with requesting not insisting.

Personally I see it like you do, I feel it is an area that should have GFCI protection.
