I am in the process of adding some wet bar receptacles for a finished basement and have some concerns on how my shop wants them put in. They want me to come off the general porpose recepts to feed the wet bar outlets. What I am finding as I read up on the codes concerning this installation is that because it is a counter top I must follow the measurements stated in 210.52c, GFI protection as stated with 210.8A(7), and a seperate 20 amp cir as stated in 210.52(B)(3). Does this last code states that you must add this seperate circuit or just that you could if you wanted. After reading this for the hundreth time I am beginning to feel you dont have to add it but could if felt neccessary. Any clarification would help.

210.52(C) & 210.52(B)(3) do not pertain to your situation. The circuitry can be off of the basement circuit.
For me there are a lot of variables that will determine how I circuit the wetbar area, such as how big an area, if I know what appliances are being used, etc...

Re: wet bar

Pierre If the wet bar were in the dining room would then210.52(c)apply....just tring to make sure Im understanding this article. Im wondering because 210.52(b)(1)states that in the kitchen, pantry, breakfast room, dining room, OR SIMILAR AREA. What other area could they be talking about...thats kinda were I hung up. Thanks for the response

I am not an AHJ, so you might want to ask your AHJ.
IMHO in the dining room if you had a wet bar I would follow 210.52(A), (B)(1),(B)(2) and I would have it installed on the small appliance branch circuit. If the load to be served is large enough, I would add the necessary 20 amp circuits.
If the wet bar is in a family or living room, then I would space the GFCI at 6 feet from the sink rim and install the size circuit necessary for the load, and that could be a 15 amp circuit.
