Hey guys, just wanted to find out your opinions on what 1st year apprentices (in motors) need to know. This is a guy (or gal) that has never touched a motor, just got a job with an industrial company and needs to be ready.

My thoughts:
1) How to read name plate data and interpret
2) Understand basic starting methods
3) Understand overload protection

A call to 1.888.632.2633 (1.888.NECCODE) will be one of the best calls you ever make as far as a good start for the RIGHT information in the industry! :)

Besides that, they provide the best website and forum in the industry!

I like to refer people to this nice site - http://www3.sea.siemens.com/step/flash/acmotors/index.htm.

You can see more training there. Just remember that it is Siemens, so it is more relevant to their products and ignores technologies that they don't sell.

I've seen this before but haven't looked into it. Will definately check it out.

But I was kinda' wondering what your personal opinions were in terms of a field point of view. What would you as an employer expect out of your apprentices?
